June 16, 2006 – Images of white sand beaches and crystal blue waters are coming to life throughout New York City this week, as the V.I. Department of Tourism unveils its new projection media initiative in conjunction with the Caribbean Tourism Organization's annual Caribbean Week, June 10 to 17.
Projected onto Manhattan's skyscrapers, building exteriors and landmarks, the traveling billboard showcases a selection of beautiful V.I. images from the department's new advertising campaign and branding platform, along with the CTO's new logo and the new signature logo for the Caribbean.
The projection media initiative brings V.I. imagery and messages directly to consumers on the streets of New York City in a dramatic way. With an average annual household income of $85,500, New Yorkers represent one of the largest source markets for the islands.
The Big Apple also attracts vast numbers of tourists from throughout the world, who also are exposed to the V.I.'s projected images during the course of the week.
"We unveiled this new initiative at a time when the eyes of New York are focused on events surrounding Caribbean Week, at which dozens of Caribbean destinations are vying for the spotlight," said Commissioner of Tourism Pamela C. Richards.
All week long, the image projections may be seen after dark at high-traffic, high-profile public areas around New York City, including Columbus Circle, Times Square, Greenwich Village, Soho, Meatpacking District, Madison Square Garden, Penn Station and Union Square.
