June 19, 2006 – Flags in the territory will fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset Wednesday in honor of former Sen. Gregory A. Bennerson, who died last week at the age of 46.
(See Friends, Colleagues Mourn Loss of Lt. Gregory Bennerson). A 25-year veteran of the Police Department, Bennerson was chief of detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau at the time of his death.
In a release from Government House, Gov. Charles W. Turnbull ordered all government agencies and departments to lower their flags, and he asked private entities and homes to also consider lowering their flags.
Turnbull said Bennerson was "a public official and servant greatly admired and respected by all those with whom he interacted."
Bennerson will lie in state at Government House on St. Croix on Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will held at St. Patrick's Church in Frederiksted on Wednesday, with viewing at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Frederiksted cemetery.
The Government House viewing is open to the public.
