Army National Guard Pvt. Allan H. Schuster Jr./St. Croix
Army National Guard Pvt. Allan H. Schuster Jr. has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Knox, Ky.
During the nine-week training period, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions, and core values.
Schuster is the son of Lorraine Schuster of Bonne Esperance, Kingshill, St. Croix.
Marine Pvt. Christopher Ian Berry/St. Thomas
Pvt. First Class Christopher Ian Berry graduated from the U.S. Marine Corps boot camp, Parris Island, N.C., June 2, 2006. He subsequently attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Lejeune, N.C., and is now attending Military Occupational Skill Training with a specialty in Avionics in Pensacola, Fla. He is the son of native St. Thomian Rose Marie Berry and stepson of the late Richard Bodden of St. Thomas and Trinidad, and he is the grandson of Chrystalia Marie Berry and the late Lionel Pierre Berry of Estate Dorothea.
Army Pvt. Latisha N. Kuar/St. Thomas
July 1, 2006 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army Pvt. Latisha N. Kuar has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, and physical fitness. She received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare, bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
She is the niece of Diana Andrews of Kissimmee, Fla., and sister of Latreema Simon of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
2nd Lieutenant Dwight D. Howell/St. Croix
July 11, 2006 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Dwight D. Howell has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army after successfully completing the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) program and graduating with a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University, Tempe.
The new officer will be branched to a specific corps in the Army to serve on active duty or in the National Guard or Reserve. The lieutenant also will attend the officer basic course relating to his particular military occupational specialty/job.
The ROTC curriculum prepares students with the tools, training and experiences to help them succeed as effective leaders in any competitive environment. Army officers serve as leaders, counselors, strategists and motivators, who lead other soldiers in all situations occurring in ever-changing environments. As trained problem-solvers, key influencers and planners, they are driven to achieve success with their team on every mission.
Howell is the son of Dennis A. and Deborah Y. Howell of Estate Prosperity, Frederiksted, Virgin Islands.
Air Force Sgt. Ronald L. Woodcock/St. Thomas
July 26, 2006 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Air Force Tech. Sgt. Ronald L. Woodcock is currently deployed overseas at a forward-operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq. Mission objectives focus on force protection, peacekeeping, stabilization, security and counter-insurgency operations as the Iraqi transitional governing bodies assume full sovereign powers to govern the peoples of Iraq.
Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces are also assisting in rebuilding Iraq's economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq's sovereignty and independence as a democracy.
Woodcock is a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning helper normally assigned to the 375th Civil Engineering Squadron, Scott Air Force Base, Belleville, Ill. He has 20 years of military service.
He is the son of Ronald L. Woodcock of Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Islands.
Army Pvt. Emanuel Henry Jr./St. Croix
July 27, 2006 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army Pvt. Emanuel Henry Jr. has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Knox, Ky.

Army Pfc. Edwin Torres Jr./St. Croix
July 27, 2006 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army Pfc. Edwin Torres Jr. has graduated from the Light-Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic Advanced Individual Training (AIT) course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md.
The course is designed to train soldiers to perform unit maintenance and recovery operations on gasoline and diesel fueled light-wheeled vehicles, including prime movers designated as five-ton or less and their associated trailers and associated items. Torres was trained to perform maintenance and recovery operations on track and heavy-wheeled vehicles, and on material handling equipment; maintain power assisted brake systems, vehicle suspension systems, wheel/hub assemblies, mechanical steering systems, hydraulic power steering systems, and crane/hoist/winch assemblies.
Torres is the son of Edwin and Zaida L. Cruz Torres of Rural Route 2, St. Croix, Virgin Islands.
