Anduze, a World War II veteran, died Friday at the age of 88.
"It is with profound grief that I mourn the passing of former Sen. Aubrey Anduze," Lt. Gov. Vargrave Richards said in a news release. Richards said he was Anduze's cousin.
Anduze served three consecutive terms in the Legislature from 1957 to 1962 and was president of the 2nd Legislature.
Gov. Ralph Paiewonsky appointed him administrative assistant in St. Croix.
He later served as chairman of both the first Territorial Board of Elections and the V.I. Board of Education, and presided over the First Constitutional Convention.
Richards said that Anduze will be fondly remembered for the years he spent as a municipal dentist.
"Throughout his life, Dr. Anduze always did what he could to help people and to serve his community," Richards said.
He added that Anduze inspired others to take up the mantle of public service.
The lieutenant governor also noted that Anduze was a published poet.
Anduze is survived by his wife, Arminthia Lee Anduze; four daughters — Alicia Anduze Elwin, Alena Anduze Goins, Alda Elizabeth Anduze, Altheda Auduze — and two sons, Adelbert Anduze and Dr. Alfred Lee Anduze.
Additionally, he is survived by grandchildren Catherine Anduze, Angela Bernadette Elwin, Jeanine Hendrickson, Dr. Tracy Goins, Christel Goins, Sharilyn Anduze-Garcia, Lee Anduze, Selena Anduze, Richard Bell II, Ryan Bell, Sarkis Anduze Bell, Caleb Anduze Bell, Tatsuo Anduze Bell, and Reikichi Anduze Bell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Boys and Girls Club of the Virgin Islands.
Funeral arrangements are by James Memorial Funeral Home on St. Croix. Owner G. Luz James II said Wednesday that further information on survivors was not yet available.
