Update: WAPA Phones Still Out; Repairs Expected by Thursday

July 5, 2006 — The V.I. Water and Power Authority anticipates repairs to its St. Thomas telephone system to be completed by Thursday afternoon, according to a WAPA press release issued Wednesday.
"A technician will arrive from Puerto Rico on Thursday morning and will work with WAPA personnel to install replacement parts and configure the system," the release stated.
WAPA is still unable to accept incoming calls to its main number, 774-3552. Electric emergencies can be reported to 774-1424 and water emergencies to 775-5873, however, customers are urged to use those numbers for emergencies only. Dispatchers answering those telephones will be unable to transfer calls to customer service representatives or to other employee extensions.
The release concluded, "The Authority sincerely regrets the inconvenience to its customers and will make every effort to restore telephone service as soon as possible."
