Dr. Cora Christian Joins Donastorg in Gubernatorial Race

July 16, 2006 — The Adlah "Foncie" Donastorg gubernatorial ticket became whole at a well-attended function in Frederiksted when Sen. Donastorg announced Friday evening that Dr. Cora Christian had joined his team, running as his lieutenant governor.
St. Thomas native Christian unsuccessfully ran for governor in the 2002 election with George Hodge Jr. She is married to University of the Virgin Islands professor Simon Jones Hendriksen and has lived on St. Croix for much of her adult life.
"I am prepared for the task of being the lieutenant governor of the Virgin Islands," Christian said. She is also the principal clinical coordinator of the Virgin Islands Medical Institute.
"I know where my strengths are and have identified where I can assist the people of St. Croix and the Virgin Islands," she said.
Christian, who has two children, has served as the chief medical consultant at Hovensa for 15 years and has a distinguished public service record in the medical field. She has served as assistant commissioner of the Department of Health and is largely given credit for the re-establishment of the Frederiksted Health Clinic.
Christian, reading from a prepared statement, said she would focus her attentions on safety, the economy, human services and ensuring that the senior citizens of the territory receive what is due to them.
Christian has been closely identified as the medical voice of the senior citizen community on St. Croix and has close ties with the local and national AARP organization.
Donastorg, who is running as an independent, announced his candidacy exactly one month ago and declined to name his running mate at that time, saying that his running mate deserved his or her own night.
