Multiple Events to Be Held for National Health Center Week

Aug. 2, 2006 – St. Thomas East End Medical Center in the Tutu Park Mall will hold free health screenings to underscore the vital role of community health centers, which are in their 40th year of caring for the nation's medically underserved and uninsured. The event is part of a weeklong celebration of National Health Center Week 2006 (Aug. 7-11) to recognize the achievements of health centers that range from the family doctor to 15 million people in more than 3,600 communities across the nation.
In the St. Thomas east end community, the medical center serves over 3,300 clients a year, most of who rely on Medicaid or Medicare or have no insurance at all. The following services are free during National Health Center Week:
Monday—-HIV testing
Tuesday—Pregnancy testing fitness
Wednesday—Blood pressure checks
Thursday—Nutritionist counseling; ACCU checks; raffle for machines
Friday—Cholesterol screening; pediatric dental screens with an appointment
