UVI Sets Open Houses on St. Thomas and St. Croix Campuses
UVI will conduct open houses on Wednesday, Aug. 9 on St. Thomas and on Thursday, Aug. 10 on St. Croix. The evening sessions are designed to provide a comprehensive look at the University's wide range of educational offerings. The general public as well as incoming students, potential students, high school students and adult learners are invited. "This is an opportunity to explore what UVI has to offer for every segment of the Virgin Islands community," said UVI Director of Enrollment Management Carolyn Cook-Roberts. UVI Extends Online Registration, Payment Deadline to Aug. 16
The University of the Virgin Islands has extended its Fall semester online registration period for returning students until Wednesday, Aug. 16. The University has also extended the deadline for registered students to pay their tuition and fees until Wednesday, Aug. 16. Registered students who have not yet paid tuition and fees must do so by Aug. 16 to avoid the late registration fee of $75. (Aug. 17 is UVI's regularly scheduled late-registration date.) Students are encouraged to consider enrolling in UVI's new differed payment plan, which allows payment of tuition and fees in installments. New Student Orientation Set Aug. 12-16 at UVI
Fall semester orientation activities for new students – including advisement and registration – are scheduled from Aug. 12 through 16. New student advisement and registration is slated for Aug. 15 through 17. Fall semester classes begin on Aug. 17. Links to Fall semester class schedules, detailed registration information and orientation schedules for the St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses are available from the UVI web site – http://www.uvi.edu.
UVI to Offer Placement Exams in English and Math
UVI will administer placement examinations in English and mathematics on its St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses on the following schedule:
St. Thomas:
English Exam – Sunday, Aug. 13 – 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Administered in Sports and Fitness Center – rooms 222, 224 and 225.
Math Exam – Monday, Aug. 14 – 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Administered in Classroom Administration Building room 305. For St. Thomas details, call 693-1160.
St. Croix:
English Exam – Monday, Aug. 14 – 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Math Exam – Monday, Aug. 14 – 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
All St. Croix exams will be offered on the 300 level of Melvin Evans Center. For details on St. Croix, call 692-4158.
Students must bring a photo ID and two pencils to the placement exams.
St. Thomas Campus Dining Pavilion Closed Until August 13
The Dining Pavilion on UVI's St. Thomas will be closed for a summer break through Aug. 13. The Pavilion will reopen for dinner service – 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13. The Pavilion will resume its regular schedule on Monday, Aug. 14.
St. Croix Campus Cafeteria Closed Until August 14
UVI's St. Croix campus Cafeteria will be closed from Tuesday, Aug. 1, through Monday, Aug. 13. The Cafeteria will reopen for lunch on Monday, Aug. 14, 2006.
UVI Catalog 2006-2007 and Current Graduate Bulletin Available
The 2006-2007 UVI Catalog and an updated version of the UVI Graduate Bulletin are now available on the UVI web site. Both publications are presented as PDF documents. They are easily searchable and individual pages or sections can be printed. Both files can also be downloaded and saved to personal computers. The publications can be accessed from the UVI home page – http://www.uvi.edu.
Reichhold to Host Soca King Machael Montano on August 19
UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts will present A Summer Soca Splash at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, featuring Trinidad's soca king Machel Montano and the Xtatik Band. The program will also feature Trinidad's soca queen Patrice Roberts, Rodney "Benjai" Le Blanc and Xtaushun Band from St. Croix. General admission is $35 in advance. Tickets are available at Modern Music (both locations), Urban Threadz, VI Bridal (Tutu Park Mall), Parrot Fish (Back Street), UVI's St. Thomas campus Bookstore and at the Reichhold Box office – 693-1559.
UVI-SBDC's Summer Seminars Continue on St. Thomas
The UVI Small Business Development Center (UVI-SBDC) is hosting a series of seminars on St. Thomas called "Summer Seminar Specials." The "The ABC's of Marketing" seminar, originally planned for Aug. 2, has been rescheduled for today (Monday, Aug. 7). The seminar will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the SBDC training facility in Nisky Center on St. Thomas. The next regularly scheduled seminar in the series, "Cash Flow," is set from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the SBDC training facility in the Nisky Center. The presenters, from FirstBank Virgin Islands, will be Senior Account Relationship Officer Carolyn Cole and Account Relationship Officer Anthony Morton. Admission is $20 at the door. There will be a $5 discount for people who pre-register. UVI students, staff and faculty with proper identification will be admitted free, however, pre-registration is required. 'Doing Business with EPA' Seminars Set for St. Croix, St. Thomas
Seminars titled "Doing Business with the EPA," targeted at small, minority and women-owned businesses, are scheduled on Aug. 11 on St. Croix and Aug. 17 on St. Thomas. The seminar will cover the basics of doing business with the EPA and other federal agencies. The St. Croix seminar will take place in Evans Center room 401 on UVI's St. Croix campus, while the St. Thomas session will be held at Frenchman's Reef Resort. Both sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The seminars will be presented by the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization in collaboration with UVI's Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Admission is free. Space is limited to the first 100 individuals who register.
