Dear Source:
It is now the one-year anniversary of 2005's epidemic of deadly dengue fever on the island of St. Croix, and specifically within the housing community of Williams Delight. As the sun sets in recent evenings, I am once again reminded by the rising population of mosquitoes caused by recent heavy rains that the issues that created the breeding environment responsible for last year's plague must now be re-addressed.
I would hope that it would not, once again, take Senator Neville James expending precious time and resources to keep the heat on federal and local officials (see Aug. 5, 2005 Source Article) in an effort to eliminate the potential breeding grounds for the deadly mosquito within our housing communities.
The VIHA, as well as the rest of us, must work to insure that we do not lose another life due to our neglect in preventing breeding grounds for mosquitoes. We should all be pro-active as opposed to re-active to this problem. The smallest and weakest of our society depend on us.
