Governor Approves Security Request at Local Airports

August 10, 2006 – Gov. Charles W. Turnbull urges all travelers departing from V.I. airports to arrive at least two and a half hours prior to travel in order to get through increased security screenings.
The governor asks for patience and cooperation with airline and Transportation Security Administration personnel during the elevated threat level among U.S. and territorial air travel.
Turnbull approved a request from TSA for the assistance of V.I. law enforcement during the period of elevated alert.
Travelers should be attentive and vigilant of any suspicious behavior or activities.
Until further notice, passengers departing from Cyril E. King Airport on St. Thomas and Henry E. Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix can expect these additional guidelines:
–no curb side parking;
–additional screening of passengers' personal items;
–no liquids, creams or gels allowed into check-point screening areas; these items must be placed in checked luggage;
–liquor must be checked in luggage; all hand carried liquor is prohibited.
