UVI Schedules Fall 2006 University Convocation for Wednesday, Aug. 16
The University of the Virgin Islands will conduct the Fall 2006 University Convocation from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16. Attendance at the Convocation is mandatory for UVI faculty and staff. UVI students and alumni are invited to attend. UVI President Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster will welcome the University community to the new academic year that begins with the Fall semester on Thursday, Aug. 17. She is expected to outline goals and expectations for the year as they relate to UVI's Vision 2012 Strategic Plan. The Convocation will be available in the following campus locations: St. Croix — Evans Center rooms 401 and 713; St. Thomas: Teacher Education room 101 and Business Education room 110 (Chase Auditorium).
Strategic Plan 2000-05 Closeout, VISION 2012 Framework Available Online
Final versions of the Closeout Report for UVI's 2000-2005 Strategic Plan and the VISION 2012 Framework for the 2006-2012 Strategic Plan are now available from the UVI web site. The documents are available from the "Latest Links" menu on the UVI home page – www.uvi.edu.
UVI Extends Online Registration, Payment Deadline to Aug. 16
The University of the Virgin Islands has extended its Fall semester online registration period for returning students until Wednesday, Aug. 16. The University has also extended the deadline for registered students to pay their tuition and fees until Wednesday, Aug. 16. Registered students who have not yet paid tuition and fees must do so by Aug. 16 to avoid the late registration fee of $75. (Aug. 17 is UVI's regularly scheduled late-registration date.) Students are encouraged to consider enrolling in UVI's new differed payment plan, which allows payment of tuition and fees in installments. Details on the plan are available from the UVI Cashier's Office — 693-1437. A UVI payment center website can be accessed from the UVI home page – www.uvi.edu.
New Student Orientation-Registration Set August 12-16 at UVI
Orientation and registration for new and transfer students attending the University of the Virgin Islands will be held from Aug. 12-16 on the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses. All newly matriculated students are required to participate in orientation. The orientation process is designed to enhance students' academic and social adjustment to college life. Fall semester classes begin on Aug. 17. A news release is available from the UVI web site – www.uvi.edu.

UVI Schedules Placement Exams in English and Math
UVI will administer placement examinations in English and mathematics on its St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses on the following schedule:
St. Thomas:
+ English Exam — Sunday, Aug. 13 — 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Administered in Sports and Fitness Center — rooms 222, 224 and 225.
+ Math Exam — Monday, Aug. 14 — 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Administered in Classroom Administration Building room 305. For St. Thomas details, call 693-1160.
St. Croix:
+ English Exam — Monday, Aug. 14 — 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
+ Math Exam — Monday, Aug. 14 — 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
All exams will be offered on the 300 level of Melvin Evans Center. For details on St. Croix, call 692-4158.
Students must bring a photo ID and two pencils to the placement exams..
UVI Catalog 2006-2007 and Graduate Bulletin Available Online
The 2006-2007 UVI Catalog and an updated version of the UVI Graduate Bulletin are now available on the UVI web site. Both publications are presented as PDF documents. They are easily searchable and individual pages or sections can be printed. Both files can also be downloaded and saved to personal computers for future reference. The publications can be accessed from the UVI home page – www.uvi.edu.
Registration Ongoing for UVI-CELL On-site and Online Courses
Registration is ongoing for courses offered by the University of the Virgin Islands — Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (CELL) Center. UVI-CELL provides unique educational opportunities to stimulate professional advancement and personal growth. On-site course offerings include: Gemological Institute of America Programs (Gem Identification, Colored Stones Grading Lab, Accredited Jewelry Professional (AJP) Diploma Program), Basic AutoCAD, Intro to Massage Therapy, Desktop Publishing, Intro to Insurance and Captive Management, Intermediate Computing for Seniors, International Computer Driving License, Intro to Digital Photography, Basic Web Design and Common Sense Financial Planning and Investing. CELL also offers more than 300 online programs. Students can now register for any UVI-CELL course online. Move of St. Thomas Campus MET Tower Scheduled for Aug. 14
UVI's Capital Projects Office has announced the planned relocation of the MET Tower (anemometer) on the St. Thomas campus. The move is planned, weather permitting, for the morning of Monday, Aug. 14. The tower will be moved from its current location southeast of Quarters B to a new location on the southeast corner of the Paiewonsky Library parking lot. The process is expected to take from 8 a.m. until noon. During that time, the Capital Projects Office asks that persons respect the markers which will be set up in the area of the new location so the crew can complete their work as efficiently as possible. Most of the library parking lot will be available during the process. The exception will be the first 50 meters from the southeast boundary of the lot. For more information, call 693-1504.
