District Holds Special Education Summer Institute

Aug. 12, 2006 – The Virgin Islands Department of Education's State Office of Special Education will host its Fourth Annual Summer Institute at the Westin Resort on St. John, August 13-18. Education professionals and parents will collaborate on the principle of "Improving Outcomes for Students with Disabilities," focusing on the 2004 amended Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), Reading Part II, Math Part I, Deaf-Blind Part II, and Positive Behavior Support, according to a press release from Education.
The summer institute is designed to provide its participants, which include special and regular education administrators, teachers, counselors, other related service professionals and parents, with scientifically based research in the area of instructional strategies that demonstrate how to successfully reach students.
