August 14, 2006 – Robert Bumann dusted the competition and the old course record as he sailed to victory in the South Shore Sprint Time Trial held Sunday.
His time of 20:14 obliterated Jamie Keys' former record by more than a minute.
The nine-mile race comprised 41 riders. John Riggs was a distant second, and perennial time trial stalwart Juancito Gario finished third in the Elite category.
In addition to Elite entrants, the event featured Expert, Sport and Women's racers.
Chavis Lunceford rode to his first win in Expert, barely nipping Alberto Rodriguez by one second, making this the closest finish in VI Cycling Federation history. Paul Trivino was third.
Edwin Maldonado dominated the Sport group, winning by two minutes. Nelson Rojas and Joseph Thomas rounded out the podium slots.
Denise Blanchette was also a first time winner in the Women's class, defeating Elizabeth Nurnberger and Cheryl Wade.
