September Is Library Card Sign-up Month

Aug. 14, 2006 – The Department Planning and Natural Resources announced, along with libraries across the nation, that September is Library Card Sign-up Month. The Division of Libraries encourages people to check out what's new at their public library by signing up for a library card. Libraries today offer more than just books – they have videos, CDs, computers, Internet access and more. They are also dynamic community centers for homework, book discussions, exhibits, musical performances, story hours and other programs for children and adults. Librarians are on hand to help recommend materials suitable for various ages and interests and teach critical information literacy skills – the skills to find, use and evaluate information in all formats.

All residents are encouraged to take part in this worthwhile month to promote reading for youth across the territory. To obtain a library card the following are required: proper identification, proof of mailing address, children accompanied by parent. Below are libraries where card-sign up will take place.
The Enid Baa Public Library, Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; 774-0630
The Elaine Sprauve Public Library, Cruz Bay St., St. John; 776-6359
