Aug. 19, 2006 – The Virgin Islands National Guard is hosting the 2006 Southeastern Region Safety and Occupational Health Conference during the week of Aug. 21-24 at the Divi Carina Bay Hotel and Casino on St. Croix's east end. The conference officially begins Tuesday, Aug. 22, according to a press release from the V.I. National Guard Office.
More than 60 participants from all over the southeast United States will be visiting the territory to attend the bi-annual conference. The regional conferences are held to provide updates on health and safety practices amongst nurses, deputy state surgeons and safety specialists. "We share our best practices across the board. The initiatives from the region are presented at the surgeons' conference at the end of this month in Utah," said Lt. Col. Debra Burton, an occupational health nurse and chairman of the Occupational Health Advisory Council.
"We are looking forward to having a very successful conference this year and welcome any assistance from our residents and other agencies to extend Caribbean hospitality to welcome our visitors to these beautiful shores," said Staff Sgt. Sonia Willock, safety specialist with the Guard.
