Boat Fire Sends One to Hospital

Aug. 25, 2006 – V.I. Fire Service and the U.S. Coast Guard responded Friday to a fire aboard a 25-foot boat with an orange hull and 200-horsepower engine. The fire happened near Red Hook.
Coast Guard spokesman Ricardo Castrodad said from San Juan that the one person aboard the boat went to Roy L. Schneider Hospital for treatment.
He had no information on the person's name, condition or hailing port of the vessel.
He said the Coast Guard got the call at 10:11 a.m. He said Fire Service responded first and put the fire out. Castrodad said the Coast Guard escorted the boat in to Red Hook.
Castrodad said that two boats called in the fire, with the vessel Rip Tide on the scene to assist. He said the Rip Tide brought the boat passenger to shore.
Several attempts Friday afternoon to get more information from the Fire Service were unsuccessful.
