Senatorial Forums Slated for St. Croix Campus on Oct. 11-12
The University of the Virgin Islands will host two senatorial forums as the second and third installments of its "Ideas & Issues Series – St. Croix Votes – VI Election 2006" on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 11 and 12. All candidates for St. Croix's seven senatorial seats and those for the V.I. at-large seat have been invited to the forums which will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. each day in the Cafetorium on the St. Croix campus.
The forums will include candidate introductions and presentations, and question-and-answer and open-discussion periods. The forums are open to the general public as well as to members of the University community. For details, contact Clint Ferris at 692-4188 or Hedda Finch-Simpson at 692-4191.
UVI Alumni Phonathon Begins Today; Continues through Friday, Oct. 13
The University of the Virgin Islands will host its annual Alumni Phonathon starting today (Monday, Oct. 9) and continuing through Friday, Oct. 13. Volunteers will be phoning UVI Alumni between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. from a phonathon center in UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts on St. Thomas. The goal is to raise funds for scholarships, youth enrichment programs and areas of greatest need.
Volunteers from the UVI community are still being sought to assist with the effort. Students, staff and alumni are welcome to participate. Prize incentives will be awarded to volunteers who exceed goals. Persons interested in volunteering should call Cherilyn Browne at 693-1040.
Golden Key to Host Oct. 12 Discussion on V.I. 2008 Constitution Process
A discussion of the V.I. 2008 Convention process is scheduled at the University of the Virgin Islands from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12. It will be available by videoconference in Chase Auditorium (B-110) on the St. Thomas campus and in Evans Center room 401 on St. Croix campus. Members of the UVI Community are invited take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the V.I. 2008 Constitution and the roles they can play in the process.
The discussion, sponsored by the St. Thomas chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society, will be hosted by Attorney Tregenza A. Home Decorating and Holiday Gift Making Classes Set on St. Croix
Free classes in home decorating and creating gift items for the holidays will be offered by the 4-H/Family and Consumer Sciences Program of UVI's Cooperative Extension Service beginning Oct. 17 on the University's St. Croix campus. Classes are scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and thursdays through Dec. 14. Come, learn and share in making crafts and other items. St. Thomas Campus to Host Gubernatorial Forum on Oct. 19
The UVI community and the general public are invited to a Gubernatorial Forum on Thursday, Oct. 19. All candidates for governor and lieutenant governor in the November election have indicated they will participate. The forum will begin at 7 p.m. in the Reichhold Center for the Arts. The general public and members of the University community are invited. The forum will be cosponsored by the Student Government Association, the Humanities and Social Sciences Division and the Reichhold Center for the Arts.

'Boyz – II – Men' Concert with UVI Concert Band Set Oct. 21
The University of the Virgin Islands Concert Band and guest artists described as "young boyz, young men and older young men" will present a fall "Boyz – II – Men" concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Christchurch Methodist Church, in Charlotte Amalie. The concert is presented by the Music Area of UVI's Humanities and Social Sciences Division and conducted by Prof. Austin A. Venzen. Guest artists who will perform include Shakeem John, Luben Daniel, "The Boyz" from Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, Iniko Williams, Ledell Mulraine, the Rising Stars Male Trio, Drew Bowers, the New Herrnhut Men's Chorale, Charles Smith, Malvern V. Gumbs, Clayton Emanuel, the Calvary Baptist Male Duet and Rev. E. Brian Seymour. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. V.I. Woodworkers Sought for Dec. 8-9 Woodworkers Expo on St. Thomas
The University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension will the 1st Annual Virgin Islands Woodworkers Expo on Dec. 8 and 9 at the Sports & Fitness Center on UVI's St. Thomas campus. The goal is to provide V.I. woodworkers with the opportunity to showcase various wood products such as furniture, plates, bowls, clocks and other works of art made from local and recycled forest resources. All interested woodworkers are urged to participate. Limited scholarships are available for interested woodworkers in the St. Croix district. Reichhold to Open Family Series Oct. 14 with Russian-American Kids Circus
UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts will open its new Family Series of programs with performances by the Russian American Kids Circus at 4 and 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14. "The Russian-American Kids Circus … is an opportunity for parents and children to see a top-rated performance together," said Pamela Sanes, co-interim director of the Reichhold. Submissions for St. Thomas-St. John Ag Fair Booklet Needed by Oct. 15
Submissions are being sought for a booklet to be published in conjunction with the 2006 St. Thomas-St. John Agriculture and Food Fair. Needed are articles, artwork and photographs from the UVI community. The submission deadline is Oct. 15. The fair is scheduled for Nov. 18-19. World Food Day Slated Oct. 15 on UVI's St. Croix Campus
The public is invited to celebrate World Food Day on Sunday, Oct. 15, from noon to 6 p.m. on the grounds of UVI's St. Croix campus. The annual event includes music, workshops, demonstrations, tours of UVI's Model Farm and Store, a farmers' market and food vendors' court, a petting zoo, children's games and free vegetable seedlings.
All schools, youth groups and organizations are encouraged to take part in the associated "Food Drive" that will provide food to local food banks. Donations of canned foods, paper products and toiletries will be accepted at the Research and Extension Center building on UVI's St. Croix campus. World Food Day is sponsored by UVI Cooperative Extension Service, in partnership with the V.I. Department of Agriculture and UVI Agricultural Experiment Station.
