Frederiksted Group Hopes to Transform Wednesday Nights

Oct. 24, 2006 — Where can you find cultural singers, keyboard players, dancers and spoken-word artists all in one location during the middle of the week? Look no further than Wednesday Night at the Waterfront, sponsored by the Frederiksted Economic Development Association (FEDA).
The association hopes to entice all St. Croix residents to come out every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., near the Eliza McBean clock tower adjacent to Fort Frederik, to enjoy entertainment and support area businesses.
"It was just a thought we had," said FEDA member Eugene 'Doc' Petersen. Petersen said people walk through the park in the evenings after work, so why not give them some entertainment to keep them in the area and promote Frederiksted's business community.
According to Petersen, the ongoing construction has done nothing to detract from the picturesque waterfront.
Texas visitor Sarah Piper agreed. "It's gorgeous," she said, standing as near to the waterfront as she would allow herself.
FEDA hopes the gorgeous atmosphere and ever-changing entertainment will draw people to the waterfront and subsequently to neighboring businesses. To encourage patronage of area businesses, FEDA is not having any vendors present at its waterfront events.
Despite the recent rains, which forced the cancellation of the last two events, FEDA is looking forward to this Wednesday's program.
Petersen said entertainment for the Oct. 25 and Nov. 1 performances has been scheduled, but that performers are needed for future events. "We want school groups, dancers, actors and any kind of act to provide something for the program," said Petersen.
To add your special touch to Wednesday's entertainment, contact FEDA at 773-3332 and leave a message for Petersen.
