Brief: Lindqvist Beach A Done Deal

Nov. 16, 2006 — The final papers have been signed, the check is in the owners' hands, and, according to Solicitor General Elliott McIver Davis, "the deed is done."
So brings a close to 15 years of negotiations in the V.I. government's quest to acquire the Lindqvist Beach property for Virgin Islanders.
The deal was almost finalized Wednesday afternoon, but one government check was still needed.
"I had the check this morning," Davis said.
As scheduled, Davis met with former Lindqvist owners, Edwin Padgett and Donald Rifenberg of V.I. Investments, their attorneys, and a title agent Thursday morning. "It didn't take more than half an hour," Davis said. "We signed all the papers, delivered the check, and, with a handshake, it was done."
According to a Wednesday release from Gov. Charles W. Turnbull, consideration is being given to have the Magens Bay Authority be responsible for the preservation and development of the 20.93-acre property for public recreational use.
