DeJongh Is Territory's Next Governor

Nov. 21, 2006 By shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday, it was clear that the team of John deJongh and Gregory Francis had accumulated enough of a lead in the gubernatorial runoff election to be a sure bet to sit in Government House in January.
While the Kenneth Mapp/Almando "Rocky" Liburd team had a small lead on St. Croix, deJongh-Francis came in with close to 70 percent of the vote in most precincts on St. Thomas.
With all precincts reporting in at 8:45 p.m., deJongh had 16,644 or 57 percent and Mapp-Liburd had 12,402 or 43 percent of the vote.
