AARP Agrees and Disagrees with Gov. Turnbull

Dear Source:
The St. Thomas Chapter #3138 of AARP Virgin Islands accepts the belated efforts of the Turnbull Administration to help reduce the financial hemorrhaging of the Government Retirement System (GERS) by proposing floating of bonds to reduce the unfunded liability. However, we will resist any further assault on the system such as the raising of the current caps, which we believe, will only neutralize any positive effects of the bond issue. We urge all retirees, AARP members and employees of the government to join in the protest on Tuesday November 28, 2006 at 10 a.m. in the Emancipation Garden from where we will walk over to the Capitol Building and observe silently the Senate in action.
J. J. Estemac
