Sunset Jazz Features Quiet Fire and Mekiel Reuben

Dec. 11, 2006 Frederiksted Economic Development Association Inc. (FEDA) will be hosting its anniversary celebration and holiday concert. The beginning of Sunset Jazz's seventh year will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, at Fort Frederick Beach Park. It will feature two talented groups: Quiet Fire and saxophonist Mekiel Reuben.
The premier jazz ensemble Quiet Fire features pianist Tony Richards, bassist and vocalist Devin Carrington, drummer Bobby Richards, conga player Ray Iles and special quest vocalist Shikima Jones.
As if this performance isn't enough—-Sunset Jazz is also featuring a former resident musician of St. Croix, saxophonist extraordinaire, producer and composer, Mekiel Reuben. The Chicago born native studied privately on St. Croix with jazz woodwinds player James (Jimmy) Hamilton, a 27 year veteran of the Duke Ellington Orchestra and while living on St. Croix he learned calypso, reggae, Latin and other Caribbean rhythms. After several years of touring he now resides in Los Angeles, Calif. Once Mekiel had over a 100 compositions under his belt, he started his own label with the name of MekMuse Records and now has several releases to his credit. He has shared stages with many international musicians at festivals and concert venues throughout North America and Europe.
Sunset Jazz in Frederiksted concert is a family affair. Seating is at a minimum so be certain to take along folding chairs or blankets. FEDA will have its drink concession going, with proceeds helping to offset the costs of the concert, so Please be cool: No coolers!
