Brief: WAPA Upgrade Complete for Estate Williams Delight

Dec. 12, 2006 — Residents of Estate Williams Delight are "pretty much guaranteed" that high winds and heavy rains won't be knocking out power to their homes since WAPA has connected the area to the Feeder No. 8 system, said WAPA spokeswoman Cassandra Dunn Tuesday.
The system currently feeds the area from the Richmond Power Plant through Henry E. Rohlsen Airport to Hannah's Rest intersection, said Dunn. Work crews are presently completing the installation of pipes and manholes from the intersection into Frederiksted town, Dunn said.
Energizing electric services to Estate Williams Delight is part of WAPA's effort to minimize the negative impacts of windstorms and hurricanes on customers' electrical service, said WAPA Executive Director Alberto Bruno-Vega.
"This project is part of a larger mitigation concept developed by the authority for its electrical underground system, Bruno-Vega said.
Also currently serviced by underground feeders is the area from the Richmond Power Plant to the Juan F. Luis Hospital. According to Dunn, Estates Carlton, Whim and Good Hope are expected to be serviced within the coming weeks.
Plans are also being developed to put the Christiansted and Charlotte Amalie electrical systems underground, said Bruno-Vega.
