VIWMA Gives Schedule for Holiday Bulk Waste Collection

Dec. 21, 2006 The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority will be accepting bulk waste at the selected bin sites throughout the territory through the end of January 2007. Residents are asked to place their bulk waste, including furniture, bedding, stoves, refrigerators and other appliances into the bins between the hours of 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily. Those persons who cannot meet these times are asked to take their bulk waste directly to their respective landfill or transfer station. Failure to comply with these time requirements may result in a fine, according to a press release from VIWMA.
Businesses are still required to take all waste, including bulk waste, directly to the landfill or transfer station.
On St. Thomas the bulk waste collection sites include: Cancryn, Caret Bay, Mandahl, Nazareth, and Bovoni Landfill.
Residents are reminded not to dispose of yard trimmings, tires and batteries into the bins. Yard trimmings and brush are to be taken directly to the landfills or transfer station. Tires and batteries are to be disposed of at the appropriate recyclers.
For more information, contact the Division of Solid Waste at 775-3665 on St. Thomas.
