Brief: Authorities Seek Two Runaways from St. Croix Crisis Center

April 22, 2007 — Two youths ran away from the Crisis Center on St. Croix over the weekend, one for the second time in less than a week.
The Department of Human Services and Police identified the runaways as
Leroy Simon, 12 (DOB 9/16/94), and Shawn Benjamin, 13, who ran away last week and was returned on Friday, according to a Government House news release.
Human Services Commissioner Chris Finch and his senior staff were advised of the incident on Saturday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. “It is believed that Benjamin left the Crisis Center with another minor residing there at around 2:15 p.m.,” Finch said, according to the news release.
Officials at the Crisis Stabilization Center notified Simon’s guardian, Finch said. Police Commissioner James McCall contacted a relative of Benjamin, who resides on St. Thomas, to report his escape. Both Finch and McCall asked anyone with information on the whereabouts of the young men to contact authorities immediately. The two commissioners also indicated on Sunday that two girls who ran away from the center last week have still not returned to their residence.
