CFVI Extends Deadline for Students to Apply for Summer Program Scholarships

April 27, 2007 – The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) invites high school students from St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island to apply for the 2007 USVI Youth Scholars Summer Program, according to a press release from CFVI's President Dee Baecher-Brown. Based on community needs and response, CFVI has extended the application deadline to May 31, 2007.
Funded through an appropriation of the USVI Senate through Act 6890, grants of up to $5,000 each will be awarded to students seeking to attend academically rigorous summer enrichment programs. This is the first year that the awards are being offered.
Qualifications: To qualify for the USVI Youth Scholars Summer Program, a student must:
• be a high school student from St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John or Water Island
• be accepted in/or have applied to a summer enrichment program
• have an average cumulative GPA of at least 85
Priority will be given to applications that demonstrate a student's accomplishments both in school and in the community. The quality of the enrichment program will also be an important consideration. Applicants are encouraged to submit their materials as soon as possible. Applications are due at CFVI no later than Thursday, May 31.
