UVI Alumni Association Recognition Breakfast Planned

May 18, 2007 – The University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas/St. John Alumni Association will hold its 5th Alumni Recognition Award Breakfast at 8:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 2, at the UVI Dining Pavilion on St. Thomas.
This year the alumni association honors those who have given voluntarily of their time, talent and resources to various segments in the community.
"The UVI Alumni Association has taken time out to publicly thank whole heartedly those unsung heroes for the work they are performing, and we want to let them know that the work that they are doing is highly commendable," says the association's executive body. "They are making a big difference in our community and the world. We all say a big thank you, and we ask you to continue your work because this community would be at a loss without your efforts."
Honorees for this year are Jose Raul Carrillo, Curtis Gilpin and Deanna E. Rogers of St. Thomas and Lisa Maria Penn of St. John.
Carrillo earned a Bachelor of Arts from UVI in 1975. He currently serves as coordinator of special events for UVI and is on the board of directors for the V.I. Council on the Arts.
Gilpin graduated from CVI in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in business management. In 2000, he was named UVI's associate athletic director.
Rogers is current president of the St. Thomas/St. John chapter of the UVI Alumni Association. She also serves as the current alumni representative for the UVI Board of Trustees. She is a 1985 and 1987 UVI graduate.
In 1987, Penn received a bachelor's degree in elementary education, and in 1994, a master's degree in administration and supervision, both from UVI. Her community involvement spans more than 25 years.
The price for the breakfast is $30. Proceeds will go towards the annual alumni scholarship.
Tickets are available at UVI Bookstore and from chapter officers Deanna Rogers, Claudette Georges, Denise Johannes, Clarence Nibbs, Mariga Fleming, Pamela Sanes, Martin Roberts and Jacqueline Sprauve.
