Verna Christian-Garcia Wants to Represent You

June 6, 2007 – At-Large-Delegate 5th Constitutional Convention Verna Christian-Garcia, No. 13.
Born on St Croix, graduated from St. Mary's High school, received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Loyola University in Chicago, and her Post Graduate Studies at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
She holds Certificates in Labor Relations and Association Management and is a certified administrator and organization manager.
Since 1978 she has given generously of her time to serve as the Executive Director of the Virgin Islands State Nurses Association (VISA) and has held offices as State President and District President of VISA, as well as Editor of VISA's quarterly.
She served as Chairman of the State Economic General Welfare Programs and is a recognized Caribbean Nurse Leader and has been called upon by heads of governments and agencies for consultation and input on nursing related issues and was the Editor of the Chronicle for Caribbean Nurses Organization.
She is a member of the Territorial Committee on HIV and AIDS Education; member of the Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Sorority, Inc; recognized as an outstanding woman in the St. Croix Community for her contributions to the nursing profession.
Her work experiences includes responsible positions in various departments of the government of the Virgin Islands, including The Departments of Health, Education, Human Services, The Virgin islands Housing Authority and special instructor at the University of the Virgin Islands.
She is a member of various professional organizations and boards, including the Black Nurses Action Oriented Council; St. Mary's Parochial School Board of Trustees; The Home Health Audit Nursing Program; The League of Women Voters; The National Association of Housing Rehabilitation Officials; The Governor's Advisory Council on Comprehensive Health Planning; and The Head start Policy Council.
She was honored by the 26th Legislature in a resolution for her dedicated service to the people of the Virgin Islands.
