Auditions Will Be Held July 9 for 'Buried Child'

July 7, 2007 – Pistarckle Theater will begin auditions for a production of its first play of the fall season, Buried Child, to be directed by Frank Bartolucci. The auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m., on Monday, July 9, at the theatre.
The characters include:
Dodge: An ancient looking derelict of a man, whose "rasping voice seems to come from a terminal, decades old cough." He is the disrespected drunken patriarch of a dysfunctional and decaying family whose heinous secret has rotted him and his family from the inside out. A tragic and comic character.
Halie: Dodge's disenfranchised wife. She is both a sanctimonious and hypocritical conspirator in the family's secret. She vacillates between senility, lucidity and delusions. She is a pious whore who can go from preaching righteousness to seducing a minister without hesitation. She is a character who lives in her own world of denial and fantasy.
Tilden: Their oldest living son. A lumbering, dimwitted hulk, who imbues an "eerie quietness and heartbreaking vulnerability." He is a victim of the family's secret, who lost his soul in that heinous act.
Bradley: Their 40-year-old, one-legged son, who accidentally cut off his leg with a chainsaw and is now a sadistic, obscene bully, who turns into a sniveling, sobbing brat when confronted.
Vince: Tilden's son. A young man in his 20's, he has grown up away from the family as a seemingly well-adjusted person but spirals into a brutal, savage, drunken lout when confronted with the truth of his heredity and their secrets.
Shelly: Vince's girlfriend, in her 20's. She is innocent but not naïve, vulnerable but not timid. She is the outsider, trapped by the family's dysfunctional madness. She is violated and seduced by it until she becomes yet another ghost, haunting the house.
Dewis: A very human preacher, easily and willingly weakened by the flesh, unwilling to face conflict when confronted. He is a coward, who shrinks when forced to look in the face of evil.
