It's Time for a Reality Check

The following is an open letter responding to Sen. Liston Davis' comments on the murder of James Cockayne in a recent FOX News report.
"Sen. Liston Davis kicked off the questioning on the Fox News story by noting that only when a white person is murdered in the Virgin Islands does the national media pay attention."
Dear Source:
Sen. Davis: I think it's about time for a reality check. The media pays attention to what people want to know. Not Black or White. It sounds to me that what you look at is BLACK OR WHITE. The reason that this "story" has become so popular is because of the corruption on YOUR island. If the police and the government had a sense of urgency about cleaning up the streets and getting rid of the people that create these issues this may not have gone to the media, or it may not have happened at all!!! Jamie Cockayne is my cousin, and he has hundreds and thousands of friends and family that he will not be able to impact anymore with his personality. He had his entire life ahead of him and had the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Jamie was the kind of person that attracted people to him. No matter what their skin color is!! That is why this has become such a "story". The person that did this to him is a CRIMINAL who was allowed to walk the streets for almost 7 weeks!!!! It is simply unbelievable that the authorities on St. John and St. Thomas would let this happen. St. John, as you know is a very small place and many people know what had happened and who did it weeks ago. So if your police dept. did not drag their feet in this matter it may not have even gone to the media.
The thing that needs to be focused on is not the advertising. It is the crime and the drugs. Take notice and do something about it! So we don't have to hear about another family losing a loved one.
