Wellness Center Presents a Weekend of Fitness Workshops

Aug. 9, 2007 – Register for a weekend of workshops to begin making better choices about fitness, nutrition and balance in your life that are certain to make you feel great while you learn new skills to help others achieve their fitness goals.
The Jackson Complex Wellness Center is committed to bringing a variety of wellness workshops with qualifications and certification options to the community.
Stretching Workshop for Cyclists Indoor and Outdoor
The workshop is being held from 6-8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 10, at the Jackson Complex Wellness Center.
Cycling creates muscle imbalances and can contribute to the loss of mobility without stretching and flexibility work. The workshop will identify safe and effective stretching techniques; highlight flexibility work targeted by cyclists; and present the latest research information on stretching. The workshop is presented by Debbie Webster, M.A., master trainer for Heart Zones and LeMond Academy. The cost of the workshop is $40. Wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Bring a towel and snack.
Heart Zones Training Foundation Seminar
The workshop is being held from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Jackson Complex Wellness Center.
This workshop is often called the "foundation" for any person who exercises or trains for a goal. Learn all about your heart and how to use a heart rate monitor to maximize your health and fitness. During the workshop, you will learn about the benefits of the five heart zones and why and when you should spend time in each of them. You will also learn about adding the element of training: how much, how often and how hard; you will learn how to interpret your own individual heart rate numbers. Finally, you will learn about the emotional heart zones and discuss your fat burning potential.
Participants receive a syllabus and heart rate cards. The course qualifies for three hours of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from ACE, AFAA and USA Cycling.
Sub Maximum Heart Rate Testing Workshop
The workshop is being held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
This workshop allows you to apply what you learned in the morning session. You will take several tests including The Easy-Moderate-Hard Test, the Talk Test, the 2 x 4 Minute Test and the 2-minute 10-Beat Test. Once testing is completed, you will have a very good estimate of your individual maximum heart rate.
Participants receive a packet of testing cards. This course qualifies for one hour of CEU from ACE, AFAA and USA Cycling. The cost for Heart Zones Training Foundation and Sub Max Heart Rate Testing is $99.
A lunch break is scheduled from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
Bring lunch and a snack.
