Aug. 14, 2007 — A young woman who worked at Maho Bay Camps was killed Monday when the soft-top Jeep she was riding in flipped over on a hill near Estate Zootenvaal, pinning her underneath.
Two other young women were injured in the accident, one of them the driver.
"They had cuts and bruises," said Karin Schlesinger, public information officer for St. John Rescue.
Schlesinger said the volunteer organization got the call at 3:03 p.m.
"The windshield was crushed," she said.
Deputy Police Chief Darren Foy said he did not have the names of the women, but said they all worked at Maho Bay Camps.
According to Foy, the Jeep was heading up the hill when the engine stalled and the vehicle started to roll back.
Foy said the driver applied the brakes but the vehicle kept going down the hill. He said the driver indicated that she tried to turn the vehicle into the hill, but it flipped over when it hit the hill.
Maggie Day, Maho Bay Camps vice president, referred questions to Maho manager Adrian Davis. Davis could not be reached for comment.
