Brief: New Fire Service Fees Announced

Aug. 27, 2007 — The V.I. Fire Service has come out with an updated list of fees.
"Some were in place, but some are new," said Fire Marshall Richard Lindo on Monday.
The fee schedule is effective immediately. The new fees were authorized by Fire Service Director Victor Browne and signed into law in May by Gov. John deJongh Jr., Lindo said.
Building inspection fees:
Businesses with under $150,000 in gross receipts: $100 a year.
Businesses with more than $150,000 in gross receipts: $200 a year.
Businesses having their buildings inspected must also pay a time-consumption fee:
— Class A buildings (larger that 15,000 square feet): $100 a year.
— Class B buildings (3,000 to 15,000 square feet): $50 a year.
— Class C buildings (less than 3,000 square feet: no fee.
New business inspection: $100.
Reinspection of businesses that failed the initial inspection: $50.
Late fee for expired inspections: 10 percent per month of the annual inspection fee for each month the business is late.
Burning permits: $20.
Blueprint reading fees for commercial construction:
— Class A buildings (larger that 15,000 square feet): $300.
— Class B buildings (3,000 to 15,000 square feet): $200.
— Class C buildings (less than 3,000 square feet: $100.
Fire-extinguisher training fee: $10 per person.
Certified reports for fire investigations: $10 a copy.
Standby fee for events: $500.
False-alarm fines:
— First and second incidents: warning.
Third false alarm: $100.
Each additional false alarm: $200.
Dry-cleaning permits: 50 percent of the annual inspection fee.
Explosive permit: $200 a month.
Explosive storage: $100 a year.
Fireworks: $100 per event.
Flammable liquid permit: $25 a year for all classes.
Combustible-materials permit: $100 per year.
Refining or mixing: $500 per year.
Stationary tanks class 1, 2 and 3: $200 per year.
LPG gas installations site-plan review: $25.
LPG gas tanks over 2,000 gallons: $50 per year.
LPG plants: $300 per year.
Vehicle-repair garages: $100 a year.
Places of assembly: $50 per year.
Bowling-alley permits: $100 per year.
