Sept. 4, 2007 – Tune into the Doug Lewis Show on WVGN 107.3 FM from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 9. This Sunday we will feature music by Laurie Keefe, the Kennedys, Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks, the Moody Blues, Otis Redding and more.
The Modern Music Feature CD is "We All Love Ella," a tribute CD honoring the memory and music of Ella Fitzgerald. The CD sports an all-star cast including contributions from Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, Stevie Wonder, Dianne Reeves, Linda Ronstadt and others. Some of these artists also appeared on the PBS television special honoring Ella Fitzgerald.
The Indie Spotlight CD is "The Middle of the Storm," the new release from part time St. John resident Laurie Keefe. Laurie is also a member of the Hot Club of Coral Bay, some of whose members contribute to this new CD release.
We play new music from Eliza Gilkyson, the Kennedys, the Cornell Hurd Band, John Dee Holeman and the Waifs, and more.
We include music from Greg Brown, Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks, the Moody Blues, Booker T. and the MGs and more.
We celebrate the birthdays of Billy Preston, blues artist Tutu Jones, Freddy Weller of Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Otis Redding. We remember bluegrass icon Bill Monroe on the anniversary of his death.
We also include music from Tab Benoit, who will be performing at the 2008 St. John Blues Festival, Zac Harmon, who performs on St. John with Diunna Greenleaf on Dec. 2, and Terri Hendrix, who along with Lloyd Maines will be performing at Tillett Gardens on St. Thomas, Jan. 23.
We give away a CD from the highly acclaimed African- American string band, the Carolina Chocolate Drops and a new CD of wonderful ukelele tunes released by the Kennedys, using the name the Stringbusters.
