Owen D. Slater Dies at 50

Jan. 25, 2008 – Owen D. Slater, also known as "Mapalo," of D. Hamilton Jackson Terrace died on Jan. 17, at the HIMA San Pablo Hospital, Puerto Rico.
He is survived by his sisters: Jo-Ann P. Edwards and Corrine Slater; brothers: Delroy Schmiegolow, Niles Slater Jr., Melvin, Earl and Elvis Slater; brother-in-law: Wilmot A. Edwards; sisters-in-law: Phylis and Cecelia McIntosh; aunts: Caroline Slater, Lorraine Slater Joseph, Gloria Slater, Maria Slater Harvey and Izora Engerman; uncles: Theovald Slater and Earl Ford; and many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
There will be a viewing from 10-11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 1, at St. John's Anglican Church. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., at the church. Interment will be at Christiansted Cemetery.
Persons attending the funeral service are asked to wear loud festive colors to celebrate the home going of Mapalo.
