Annual Toast-to-the Captain Road Race Set

Feb. 2, 2008 – The 22nd Annual Toast-to-the-Captain Road Race will be held at 6 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 9. The race will begin and end near the Customs House in Christiansted, according to a press release from the V.I. Pace Runners.
The 8.4-mile race celebrates Captain Teddy Seymour, the first black man to sail around the world alone. The St. Croix sailor and elementary school teacher set sail on Feb. 24, 1986, from the pier in Frederiksted, St. Croix, where he returned on June 19, 1987. The public is invited to cheer the runners on and to meet Capt. Seymour on Saturday morning at the awards breakfast following the race.
