Triathlons to Begin with Two on March 9

The 2008 Triathlon Series will commence on Sunday, March 9, with the East End Triathlon and the Try-A-Tri. The five-race series allows Virgin Islanders the opportunity to compete in professionally produced sporting events. These swim-bike-run races offer racers of all calibers the chance to race year round on St. Croix.
The East End Sprint Triathlon and Try-A-Tri are being moved this year to Cramers Park in order to have a calmer swim leg. The Sprint Triathlon distance race will feature an 800-yd. swim, 14-mile bike and 3-mile run, and is open to individuals and relay teams.
The Try-A-Tri is for those who are interested in being introduced to the sport and may want to attempt a shorter distance. The race will include a 400-yd. swim, 6-mile bike and 1.5- mile run. It will also be open to children 12 and older.
Both races will start at 7 a.m., and race day registration will commence at 6:15 a.m. Pre-race entry forms can be found at Stamina Sports, located at 4A Orange Grove.
