Alert: Work to Begin Monday Morning on Drake's Seat Roadway

March 7, 2008 — Drainage swales will be constructed and installed beginning Monday as part of the Drake's Seat road-improvement project.
"Following the morning rush-hour traffic, or around 8:30 a.m., the contractor will have personnel that will be directing traffic thru the construction area," Public Works Commissioner Darryl Smalls said Friday, according to a news release. "The roadway will not be closed, but motorists can expect some delays while traversing this route. It may be wise to use an alternate route and avoid the area if at all possible."
In other road-work news, striping continues on roadways in both island districts, Smalls said. On St. Croix, crews are continuing the effort to install road-edge striping along Queen Mary Highway in the area of Estate Whim. On St. Thomas, similar work is continuing on Brookman Road.
