March 14, 2008 – In celebration of Women's History Month, the deJongh-Francis Administration will salute Virgin Islands women of distinction with a series of biographical profiles, which will air on local radio stations March 17-31.
"First lady Cecile deJongh came up with the concept of profiling outstanding women of the Virgin Islands for the remainder of this month as a means of highlighting their contributions to our community," said Government House Communications Director Jean P. Greaux Jr.
Beginning on Monday, female members of the governor's cabinet will profile the lives and contributions of outstanding women in the one-minute vignettes that will air on WSTA (1340 AM) at 7:35 a.m. and 5:10 p.m. and on WSTX (970 AM) and WVIQ (99.5 FM) during the local newscast, "Newslink V.I."
Gov. John deJongh has proclaimed this month as "Women's History Month" in the Virgin Islands. In a proclamation he said "The territory has a rich history of noteworthy women whose achievements helped to shape and improve the quality of life for the people of the Virgin Islands socially, economically, culturally and politically."
The wife of the governor and Cheryl Francis, wife of the lieutenant governor, are also among those narrating the profiles of these outstanding women.
