Monday Night Winners: Softball Inc., Speak the Word and Wyatt Heat

April 1, 2008 — Monday night action in the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park saw victories by Softball Inc., Speak the Word Ministries and Wyatt Heat. While Softball Inc. had an easy blowout win, the other two winners had a much tougher time of it.
Softball Inc 32, Anchor Dive 12
Softball inc. exploded for 32 runs on 30 hits in game one Monday, crushing Anchor Dive 32-12. Softball Inc., the league's hottest-hitting team, boasts four players in the top 10 hitters list. Anchor Dive's 12 runs on 16 hits were not nearly enough. Softball Inc. also had two errors while Anchor Dive Committed three.
The winning pitcher was Cody St. Pierre, while Edwin San Kitts got the loss for Anchor Dive. Top hitters for Softball Inc. were Ariel Gil and Andre Poche, both 4 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs, and Tim Gillespie, 2 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs. For Anchor Dive, Mario Simmonds went 2 for 2 with two home runs and six RBIs, while Koal Snyder and Randy Rawlins both went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.
Speak the Word Ministries 24, Quality Auto Pistons 18
Speak the Word Ministries got a surprisingly tough game from the league's cellar dwellers, Quality Auto Pistons, before going on to beat them 24-18 in game two Monday night. Speak the Word scored 24 runs on 22 hits with two errors, while Quality Auto had 18 runs on 18 hits and committed three errors. Ian Lewis picked up the win on the hill for Speak the Word, with Lenny Ferrante getting the loss for Quality Auto. Top hitters for Speak the Word were Raphael Almonte, 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs; Sylvester McIntosh, 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs; and Norbert Pickering, 2 for 3 with a home run and one RBI. For Quality Auto, Cory Thibbeau went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs and Gary Anthony went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs.
Wyatt Heat 13, Claudio Enterprises 11
In Monday's nightcap, Wyatt Heat upset Claudio Enterprises 13-11 to show they are still a force to be reckoned with. The Heat, the league's defending champions, had fallen on hard times this season and were struggling in the middle of the standings to date.
On Monday, however, they showed a little of why they are the defending champions. The Heat plated 13 runs on 11 hits with three errors, and Claudio Enterprises had 11 runs on 15 hits with two errors. The winning pitcher was Kennedy Feist, while Julio Carmona picked up the loss for Claudio. Top hitters for the Heat were Tomas Corcino, 4 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, and Feist, 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. For Claudio, Miguel Rodriguez went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, Juan Santana went 1 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs, and Wilfredo Ferera went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.
