April 21, 2008 — One man is dead and another injured following a shooting Sunday night in the Harborview Apartments in Christiansted.
Dean Martin, 24, of Estate Peter's Rest died in a private vehicle en route to the hospital after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the body, according to preliminary police reports. A 21-year-old resident of Estate Peter's Rest, whose name has not been released, sustained a gunshot to the shoulder, police say. He was treated at the Luis Hospital and remains in stable condition.
Officers responded to a report of shots and an injury at the apartments, which are located in La Grande Princess, at approximately 11:09 p.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the V.I. Police Department. At the scene they observed what appeared to be a pool of blood in the parking lot in the vicinity of Building 6, the release said.
Police were advised that two male victims were being transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital in private vehicles.
An earlier report of shots brought police to Harborview at approximately 8 p.m. At that time officers observed several spent shell casings in the parking lot near Building 6, the release said. They checked the area but didn't find anyone at that time.
When questioned later by police, the 21-year-old victim said he was sitting on the steps of Building 6 when unknown person began shooting at him. He did not provide a description of the suspects, but police are following up on several leads, the release said.
Investigation Bureau detectives are following up on the shootings.
