Rotarian Luncheon Features Speaker on Vietnam Investment

April 29, 2008 – Miguel Pardo de Zela, global trade and investment management consultant, will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of St. Croix luncheon at noon on Thursday, May 1, at Gertrude's Restaurant, Hess Road.
He will speak on "Vietnam Today: Getting 'Globalization' Right and What it Means for the USVI." Vietnam is Asia's bite-sized version of China, whose young population drives an economy second in growth only to its neighbor to the north, Vietnam joined the World Trade Organization last year after ten years of negotiations, making it one of the most open trading economies in an increasingly globalized economy.
What does this mean for the Virgin Islands? Can Vietnam be the source of select imports into the V.I., substantially increasing merchants' profits? For those willing to sell business-training services, the hottest market in South East Asia is Vietnam. Pardo de Zela, raised and educated in the Virgin Islands and 25-year veteran of the Foreign Service, is doing both and will give advice on how to participate in the global economy.
All Rotarians, their guests and the public are welcome. Lunch is available at a cost of $15. For additional information and reservations, contact Jim Oliver at 777-7700 or 277-1126, or Liz Goggins at 712-5003 or 771-4420.
