Softball Inc. and Wyatt Heat Close Regular Season on Winning Notes

May 9, 2008 — Softball Inc. and Wyatt Heat solidified their playoff positions Thursday as the regular season of the Bob Owens Slow-Pitch Softball League came to a close.
Softball Inc. crushed Quality Auto Pistons 34-7 and the Heat edged Anchor Dive 13-11 at the D.C. Canegata Ballpark.

Softball Inc. showed why they are considered a serious contender in the Bob Owens playoffs with a season-ending 34-7 thrashing of the Quality Auto Pistons. Softball Inc. had 34 runs on 38 hits with three errors, while Quality Auto Pistons had seven runs on 13 hits with three errors. Cody St. Pierre picked up the win on the hill for Softball Inc., while Lenny Ferrante got the loss.
Top hitters for the winners were Aaron Smith, 5 for 5 with two home runs and two RBIs; Chivas Julian, 5 for 5 with three RBIs; and John Reeves, 4 for 4 with five RBIs. For Quality Auto, Jeff Elvins went 3 for 3 with one RBI and Tony Gatti went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Wyatt Heat 13, Anchor Dive 11
The defending champions, Wyatt Heat, squeaked by a very good Anchor Dive team 13-11 to prove that, even though they finished the regular season in the middle of the standings, they will be a team to be reckoned with in the playoffs. The Heat plated 13 runs on 15 hits with two errors, while Anchor Dive had 11 runs on 12 hits with three errors. The winning pitcher was Robert Todman, while Edwin Sankitts got the loss for Anchor Dive. Top hitters for the Heat were Paul Medlin, 3 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs; Dexter Desouza, 3 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs; and Todman, 3 for 3 with two RBIs. For Anchor Dive, Randy Rawlins went 4 for 5 with three home runs and seven RBIs and Greg Gumbs went 2 for 4 with a home run and one RBI.
The playoffs start Monday with three scheduled games. At 6:30pm the regular-season champions, Seaborne Stealers, take on the league's bottom-dwelling Quality Auto Pistons. That game will be followed promptly by Cross Tech going up against Claudio Enterprises at 7:45pm and the nightcap, starting at 9 p.m., will feature Anchor Dive versus Softball Inc.
