UVI St. Thomas-St. John Alumni to Honor Four with Awards

May 20, 2008 – The University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas-St. John Alumni Chapter will hold its 6th Alumni Recognition Award Breakfast at 8:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 7, at the Dining Pavilion, on UVI's St. Thomas campus. The alumni chapter has created four distinct awards to celebrate its alumni: the Distinguished Alumni Award, the Alumni Honor Award, the Alumni Horizon Award and the Alumni Award of Excellence.
The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes the truly outstanding accomplishments of living UVI alumni who have earned national or international prominence as a result of their outstanding professional achievements and/or service to the society. The Alumni Honor Award recognizes the significant contributions made over a number of years by UVI alumni in their local communities. It is presented to alumni who have made outstanding contributions to their professions, their communities, to society at large or to UVI. The Alumni Horizon Award recognizes the outstanding achievements of UVI alumni early in their careers. The Alumni Award of Excellence celebrates the specific, recent accomplishment of UVI alumni, which may take the form of major awards, major championships, appointment or election to high office, etc.
Dr. Trevor Connor is the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Connor practices dentistry in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands and Anguilla, West Indies. He earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from UVI in 1983.
Debra Gottlieb is the recipient of the Alumni Honor Award. She is the director of the Office of Management and Budget, vice president of the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority Inc. (Epsilon Zeta Chapter), and a member of the Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas Lions Club. Gottlieb earned a Master of Public Administration from UVI in 1995.
Eltino S. Pickering is the recipient of the Alumni Horizon Award. Pickering is an instructor and music arranger for the Superior Court Rising Stars Steel Orchestra. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in music administration with a concentration in steel pan in 2004.
Carmen M. Wesselhoft, senator of the 27th Legislature of the V.I., is the recipient of the Alumni Award of Excellence. Sen. Wesselhoft earned a Bachelor of Arts in business from UVI in 1985.
The breakfast will include an omelet station and other foods such as bacon, veggie links, pastries, breads, fruits, hot and cold cereals, assorted juices, coffee and tea. Proceeds from the breakfast go towards the annual alumni scholarship for incoming freshmen.
Tickets are $30 and are available at UVI Bookstore and from chapter officers: Pamela Sanes, Helen Hart, Michelle Johnson and Jacqueline A. Sprauve on St. Thomas; and Joan Thomas on St. John.
