A Response to the 100 Percent Virgin Islander

Dear Source:
I am glad you like being from the VI, I love it here, I am glad I moved here. I hope to fit in and be an asset to the islands. If I may say this as politely as i can, I am 56 years old I have been paying US taxes all my life, part of those taxes have come here to the VI, not support you as virgin islanders but to help support us Americans. When i looked in the Caribbean for a place to move St. Croix was the only island on my list, this was because on a vacation here my wife and i made a wrong turn while trying to go to the friendship music festival, we instead wound up at St. Joseph's and was invited in by the friendly people who worship there, we were greeted by father Louie who didn't care if we were white, or visitors or lost, he and his congregation made us feel like we were found and valued as part of the day on St. Croix. The word IM looking for is good people doing good things, now everyone here isn't able to be like that but for the life of me i honestly believe that the vast majority of people here on St. Croix are just that, they don't need some extra status or words on paper say they are real virgin islanders, they are good people and what they do speaks for it self, I moved here because I was 100% convinced that these good people could rub off what living on the mainland has done to me. Don't become what they are back in the states, counting how long they have been rich or good looking lived in the right communities, gone to this school or that church, be proud of who you are and let your culture and dignity speak for it self, here was a man who gave a speech about having a dream where all gods children would play together, and in the end that's what we all are gods children, now all we have to do is learn to play together. It starts with loosing the anger at who you think you are and accepting the joy of being yourself.
