Scholarship Applications for Health Care Workers Are Available

June 26, 2008 – The applications for the National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program are available for the 2008-2009 academic year. Students training to be or accepted in full-time, accredited programs for allopathic and osteopathic physicians, dentists, certified nurse-midwives, certified family nurse practitioners and physician assistants are eligible to apply. Successful applicants must also be U.S. citizens and not be in default of any federal loans, according to a press release from the Department of Health.
The deadline to apply is Friday, July 11, 2008.
A scholarship consists of payment for tuition, fees, other reasonable educational costs and a monthly support stipend, according to Lorna Williams-Sutton, director of the Department of Health's Primary Health Care Office. Upon completion of studies, health care service providers must serve one year in a medically underserved area for each academic year financed.
