V.I. Boxer Jackson Moves Into 2nd Round in Beijing

Aug. 10, 2008 — Even though the points did not show it, V.I. boxer John Jackson pummeled his competition during his Olympic bout in Beijing Sunday.
Jackson defeated Mahamed Nurudzinau of Belarus to advance to the second round of the men's welterweight competition. The first two rounds were scoreless, but then in the third round, Jackson and Nurudzinau went back and forth, with both boxers picking up two points. But in the final round, Jackson picked up his pace, landing multiple combos to lead him to the 4:2 victory.
During the fight, Jackson landed several clean blows to his opponent's midsection but did not receive points from the judges, making the score closer than it could have been.
On Saturday, Julius Jackson was in action, going up against Kenny Egan of Ireland. Fighting through a shoulder injury, Julius came up well-short of his goal, falling to Egan by a score of 22:2.
