Softball Inc, Code 9, Wyatt Heat Are Slow-Pitch Winners

Sept. 5, 2008 — There were two games played in the HOVENSA Slow-pitch Co-ed softball league at the D.C. Canegata Ballpark Thursday with a third decided by forfeit.
In game one, Softball Inc outlasted St. Croix Merchants, 11-9 and in game two, Code 9 beat the Salty Sailors 15-7. In the third scheduled contest of the night Master Batters lost by forfeit to defending champions, Wyatt Heat.
Softball Inc 11, STX Merchants 9
Softball Inc turned back upset-minded STX Merchants 11-9 in the night's opening game. It was Softball Inc with 11 runs on 15 hits with two errors, while the STX merchants had nine runs on 12 hits with three errors. Cody St. Pierre was the winning pitcherwhile Bill Harris got the loss. Top hitters for Softball Inc were Paul Medlin, 2 for 2 with two RBIs and Aaron Smith was 2 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs. For the losing team, Wilfredo Bello was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Adam Harris was 3 for 4 with three RBIs.
Code 9 15, Salty Sailors 7
Code 9 cruised by the Salty sailors in game two behind a five-hit pitching effort from Gladys Pagan. Rod Graci got the loss for Salty Sailors. Code 9 scored 15 runs on 21 hits with three errors and Salty Sailors plated seven runs on five hits and they committed four errors. Op batters for code 9 were Edwin Rivera, 2 for 2 with three RBIs and Mapleton Lawrence was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. For the Salty sailors Corey Thomas was 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs and Jason Helima was 3 for 4 with one RBI.
