Voices that Count Conferences
Planned for Individuals with Disabilities in the V.I.

Individuals with disabilities and their families are invited to self-advocacy "Voices That Count" conferences scheduled Sept. 29 and 30 on St. Croix and on Oct. 2 and 3 on St. Thomas.
The conferences, sponsored by the Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD), will focus on bringing together individuals with disabilities, service providers, advocates and local legislators to work for local improvements in five major areas. These include health and mental health, employment, education, accessibility to housing and transportation, and civil rights. Speakers will focus on current and emerging legal issues in the field of disabilities rights on the national level as well as the status of disabilities rights in the Virgin Islands.
On St. Croix the conferences will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 29 and 30. They will be held in the Great Hall of the Northwest Wing Annex on UVI's St. Croix campus. On St. Thomas the conferences will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 2 and 3. They will be held in the Administration and Conference Center building on UVI's St. Thomas campus.
There is no fee for conference participants, but space is limited on both islands. Transportation will be provided to qualifying individuals with disabilities. For details on St. Croix, call Gerri Hanna at 692-1919. On St. Thomas, call Shammi Carr at 693-1319.
Orientation for New Reichhold Volunteers
Set Sept. 13; Additional Volunteers Welcome

UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts will conduct a new volunteer orientation at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 in the Reichhold lobby. All new volunteers must attend. New student volunteers must be accompanied by an adult. Individuals who have not yet submitted an interest form are welcomed. Organizations Sought to Join Coastweeks Effort in V.I.
Virgin Islands organizations interested in participating in the 2008 International Coastal Cleanup – known as Coastweeks – are being sought. Local Coastweeks cleanup activities are scheduled from Sept. 20 through Oct. 11. Cleanups are being planned throughout the territory. Coastweeks is supported by UVI's Virgin Islands Marine Advisory Service (VIMAS), the Coastal Zone Management Program, the Friends of the V.I. National Park and the V.I. Waste Management Authority. St. Croix UVI Bookstore to Close for Inventory Sept. 24 through 30
UVI's Bookstore on the St. Croix campus will be closed from Sept. 24 through Sept. 30 for inventory. The Bookstore has also announced that its cutoff date for accepting interdepartmental requisitions is Sept. 12. For more information call Merritt Crowder at 692-3160.

Banner Employee Self Service Training Available
UVI employees can now access real time information about their benefits, payroll and job using the Employee Self Service module of UVI's Banner records database via any Internet connection. It also provides employees a way to ensure that their individual information is correct and up-to-date. This is also important because the automatic printing and distribution of pay stubs is scheduled to end. Training on how to use Banner Employee Self Service will be offered in September. (See schedule below.) Basic internet navigation skills are necessary for participants.
• St. Croix — Sept. 18: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m.
• St. Croix — Sept. 19: 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m.

Free Movie Offered Sept. 7 on St. Croix
to Mark International Year of the Reef on St. Croix

In celebration of the observance of the International Year of the Reef (IYOR) 2008, the UVI Marine Advisory Service will host the 5th Free Family IYOR Movie Night at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7. The film to be featured is "The Deep" – part of the Blue Planet series. It will be shown in the UVI Theatre in the Evans Center on the St. Croix campus. The film is appropriate for audiences of all ages. Free popcorn will be available. For details, contact Emily Tyner at 692-4144.

St. Croix Campus Slates First Festival Committee
Meeting for Sept. 8

The first meeting of UVI's St. Croix campus Festival Committee for 2008-2009 is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, in room 103 of the North West Wing Annex. All members of the UVI community are invited to participate. The adult's parade of the Crucian Festival is scheduled for Jan. 3.
