CFVI Is Accepting Applications for Anderson Teacher Grants

Sept. 16, 2008 – Applications for the 2008 Teacher Grants from the Anderson Family Fund at the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) are now available, according to Dee Baecher-Brown, president of CFVI.
The Teacher Grants Program provides funding on a competitive basis for projects that seek to improve student achievement. Individuals may request up to $1,000 to implement an innovative project in their classrooms and schools. Grant awards must supplement school activities and resources, not replace local or federal funding.
Awards will range from $250 to $1,000, and up to $20,000 in grants will be awarded. Teachers, assistant teachers and guidance counselors in the public school system of the U.S. Virgin Islands are eligible to receive this funding.
Priority will be given to proposals where students are directly involved in the project, the project description is clear and well organized, creative strategies and activities are used to improve student learning, outcomes are measurable and substantive, the budget is realistic and the funds will be used efficiently.
All proposals must be submitted to CFVI no later than 5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30. Applications can be downloaded from CFVI's Website at www.cfvi.net
Successful applicants must agree to submit a brief written report and, if possible, contribute visual documentation on the use of the grant at the end of the funding period. Any applicant who was a recipient of a 2007 Anderson Teachers Grant must have submitted a written final report on the use of the 2007 grant in order to be eligible for a grant in 2008.
The Anderson Family Fund for Education was established at CFVI in 2002 to improve public education for economically disadvantaged children in the U.S.V.I. John E. Anderson Sr. and his family of Los Angeles, California, (owners of Topa Properties Ltd., Topa Insurance Services, Dorchester Insurance, Bellows International, West Indies Corporation and Leeward Islands Management) fund the programs.
